IPSWICH LEGEND MILLS UNIMPRESSED BY CITY

-

IPSWICH Town legend and former England captain Mick Mills was less than impressed with Hull City, despite the Tigers winning 3-0 at the home of his former club.

Mills, a match summariser on BBC Suffolk, took aim at Grant Mccann’s Tigers following a victory which cemented their place at the top of League One, with 10 wins from their opening 13 games.

A goal inside two minutes from Mallik Wilks put Mccann’s men in front, before Josh Magennis fired in on the stroke of half-time. Tom Eaves ran onto a fine through ball from Callum Elder to slot in a third and round off a terrific display.

Despite what appeared to be a strong away display, Mills explained why he thought City were not as good as their lofty position suggests.

“It’s a strange division this one, it really is,” Mills said.

When it was put to the 71-year-old that he was not impressed by City, he replied: “No I wasn’t, I really wasn’t.

“They got a goal in the first minute and you thought they would really tie the game down, and come onto a good performance. Really, right up until half-time I’m thinking ‘I’m not sure about this team.’

“The back four were OK, they offered a good resistance, but in the killer positions I looked at the front three - the two wide players were so wasteful it was unbelievable, the centre forward was a bit pedestrian.”

City opted for a change in midfield, with Regan Slater coming on at the expense of Alfie Jones and played alongside Richie Smallwood and George Honeyman. “And the midfield three, who they sort of tell me are a good three and he (Grant Mccann) wouldn’t change any one of them for anybody in the division, well I didn’t see that,” said Mills. “I didn’t see a particularly good midfield three. In those key six positions I didn’t like one player and that shouldn’t be the case for a tabletopping team.

“Sometimes you get a team that are a team, not particularly good individuals but they’re very good as a team, but even then there are people that stand out. Honestly, they didn’t have a stand-out player.”
