Tigers close their Academy

-

HULL City have closed their academy due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis engulfing East Yorkshire.

The Tigers say they’ve made the tough decision to suspend operations at the Bishop Burton site after a rise in players being forced to self-isolate.

Cases in Hull continue to go up ahead of the announcement by the government regarding the tier system which comes into force once lockdown ends next week.

“Although every effort has been made, in line with strict EFL Covid protocols, to adapt our training and games programmes at Bishop

Burton, a sharp rise in the number of players having to self-isolate means that we sadly have no option other than to bring a halt to some activities at this time,” the club said in a statement.

“This means that fixtures for all age groups, from our Under-16s down, training and day-to-day activities have been postponed until further notice, although coaching staff will continue to remotely deliver conditioning work to the players so they are ready for the resumption of full activity when it is safe to do so.

“Our Under-23s’ fixtures will continue as scheduled, with players in that age group training at our Cottingham Training Ground. Our Under 18’s programme will also continue but in a reduced manner in the short term.

“Temporarily suspending our academy operations at Bishop

Burton has been an incredibly difficult decision for the club to make, but our priority has to be the health and well-being of all of the players, staff, parents and families involved in the successful running of our academy and we thank all of them for their understanding at this time.

”The club will continue to monitor and review the situation, in the hope that the academy can be back up and running as soon as possible.”
