PARENTS say they have been left in the dark after the reception class at a Hull primary school was sent home – with no idea when their children will be allowed back in class.

A text was sent to parents of children at Adelaide Primary School in Walker Street, west Hull, on Tuesday, November 17, instructing them to collect their children “immediately”.

All pupils were told they must self-isolate as a “precautionary measure” because the school was awaiting “several” community members’ test results.

A further text was issued on Monday, November 23, stating the school would reopen to the class on Wednesday, November 25.

However, the next day, another text was sent saying the foundation stage “would not reopen tomorrow” and will now remain closed “until further notice”.

One parent, who did not wish to be named said parents are in the dark as to when they will be able to return.

She said: “They were meant to go back Wednesday, got the text Tuesday night to say they weren’t allowed back, then got another yesterday to say it’s still down, so god knows what’s going on.

“I think even school don’t have a clue what’s going on.

“In all honesty, I feel really anxious about it all.

“I think all schools should fully shut again. I don’t like taking my kids as so many parents still don’t adhere to the rules school have.

“The staff are so nice and really trying, then it’s them that get the stick for it when they’re trying their best.

“I doubt I’ll be taking them back even despite fines.

“I’d rather pay that than end up with children and family members with Covid, it’s not worth it.”

The school has already been affected by coronavirus, with the entire school closing early for half term last month.

Suzanne Adkinson, headteacher at Adelaide Primary School, said: “We made the decision to close the Foundation Stage as a precautionary measure, while we await the test results of members of the school community who have reported Covid symptoms.

“The school has, and continues to, work with public health to ensure the safety of pupils and staff.

“We have updated parents regularly and will be in contact as the outcomes of tests results are known. We thank parents for their understanding at this challenging time.”
