Jones is set for Hull exit
Josh Jones looks to have played his last game for Hull FC as he edges towards the exit at the KCOM Stadium. The Mail understands the backrower is in talks over a move to Huddersfield Giants in a switch that would see him link up with his former Salford head coach Ian Watson in West Yorkshire.
Jones has struggled to settle with the Black and Whites after making the move to Hull from the Red Devils last year.
The 27-year-old made just seven appearances for Hull under Lee Radford and interim head coach Andy Last in the 2020 campaign and it is thought FC are happy to cut his time with the club short.
FC were delighted with the form of Andre Savelio and Manu Ma’u in the latter stages of the season, while Jordan Lane impressed considerably in Jones’ absence, too.
As such, with options in the backrow already, it is thought the club will allow Jones to pursue options closer to his home in the North West, freeing up the funds for new head coach Brett Hodgson to make his own stamp on the side.
Hodgson has already spoken of his desire to bring a new half-back to the club, while he is also keen on making additions to add to the strength in depth in the pack and outside backs ahead of the 2021 season.
Jones has been commuting from the North West to the club’s County Road training ground during his time as a Hull player, which has been frustrating for the club, particularly after struggling with the lasting effects of coronavirus following lockdown.
The Great Britain international did eventually get himself fit and featured in a number of Last’s 21-man squads towards the end of the season, but having fallen down the pecking order he failed to get out onto the field.
He missed the club’s play-off semi-final clash with Wigan Warriors last week through a back issue, which Last admitted hadn’t been helped by the travel to and from Hull.
Huddersfield have been reshaping their squad after the appointment of Watson, with Jordan Turner and Suaia Matagi being allowed to leave the club.
Jones spent four seasons working under Watson at Salford, helping the club to the Grand Final in his last year before moving to the Black and Whites.
