Call yourself a ‘doer’, Harry... you should probably (rain) drop the act
PRINCE HARRY this week urged humans to act “like raindrops” on the earth calling for action, not words, to tackle the climate crisis.
The Duke of Sussex spoke out as he voiced his support for new Netflix-style platform, Waterbear Network, that offers environmental documentaries.
Speaking in his capacity as head of Africa Parks, the conservation group he has been president of since 2017, the Prince told how protecting the natural world needed “doers”.
Harry urged people to be “like raindrops” acting to “relieve the parched ground”.
“For me, it’s about putting the dos behind the says, and that is something that Waterbear is going to be doing: capitalising on a community of doers. There’s a lot of people that say, but this is about action,” he said.
“Every single raindrop that falls from the sky relieves the parched ground. What if every single one of us was a raindrop, and if every single one of us cared?
“At the end of the day, nature is our life source. But you can’t uplift, educate and inspire unless there is a form of action that follows.”
There is much to be welcomed in Harry’s sentiments, but it did make me question which “doers” he was referring to.
Surely not those who live in a £11.25m California mansion equipped with air conditioning, a pool that needs cleaning and disinfecting with chemicals frequently, and expansive grounds that need regular watering, all while swanning around in huge, fuel-guzzling vehicles.
Just wondering.
