Mccann: I was pleased we got the job done

GRANT Mccann was overjoyed with his Hull City side’s dominant performance to beat Doncaster Rovers 2-1 on home soil.

The result was City’s fourth straight league win and enough to take them four points clear at the top of League One, despite the fact they still have a game in hand on some rivals.

The Tigers were by far the better side but were made to work for the points by Darren Moore’s team.

Josh Magennis gave City the lead through a venomous strike from outside the area in the first half but their visitors thought they had claimed a point when Tyreece John-jules stole an equaliser with nine minutes remaining.

City kept their cool, though, and substitute Tom Eaves found the net late in the day to collect all three points and give Mccann the result he thought his team deserved.

“I thought it was a really good performance, barring a 10 to 15 minute spell in the second half where we got a wee bit lax with our shape,” he said.

“They’re a good footballing team Doncaster, one of the better footballing teams in the league but I thought for large periods of the game we were very comfortable. I was really pleased to get the job done at the end, the subs made a big impact, James Scott, Eavesy and it helped us get the three points.”

He added: “I thought every single one of them was top class, from one to 11. I think I said on Sunday that we had probably five or six performances maximum, tonight we had one to 11. Really good performances from all around the team.”

Mccann has confirmed Jordy de Wijs fractured his eye socket in a clash of heads in Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Stevenage. They’ll also be without young midfielder Callum Jones for a month with a hamstring complaint, while Dan Batty has also picked up a hamstring problem.

“Jordy had a whack and he came off because he had blurred vision,” Mccann added. “We’ll have to see whether we can get him through games in terms of wearing a mask. Batty has just felt his hamstring and Callum Jones has done his quite badly.”
