Tigers in triple injury boost for clash with Imps

Hull City have been handed a triple injury boost ahead of their return to action next Tuesday evening. Without a win in their last four league and cup games, Tigers head coach Grant Mccann is in need of some good news over the Christmas period, and it would appear there is some light at the end of December’s rather dark tunnel.

Influential midfielder George Honeyman is expected to make a return to the side having missed last week’s defeat at Blackpool and then Friday evening’s reverse at home to Portsmouth.

It’s expected that Alfie Jones and Martin Samuelsen will also be available for another crunch KCOM Stadium game against a promotion rival, with Lincoln City rolling into town having leapfrogged the Tigers over the weekend into second place.

“He was close to making the game it’s still not right. He could possibly have been OK for Sunderland if the game was going ahead,” Mccann said.

“He’ll definitely be back for the Lincoln game, so that’ll be a plus for us.”

Versatile Jones limped off in the second half at Oxford earlier this month, while Samuelsen’s last outing came in the penalty defeat at Stevenage at the end of last month.

“Alfie Jones will be back for that game, Martin Samuelsen will be back so they’re very close as well so we’re starting to get some more bodies back,” Mccann said.

Despite losing three League One games in a row and being knocked off the top of the table, Mccann says confidence within the dressing room is good, having previously admitted he thought the spell was a blip. “Confidence is good,” he said.

“When you lose two or three games people will always question if teams have sussed you out, is confidence low, what’s wrong in the changing room, what’s the matter with this - look, people can ask those questions but we’ll stay focused on us on the job in hand.

“The job in hand is for us to try and push to have a promotion push and that’ll not change just because we’ve lost two or three games in a row.

“We’ll take stock of it, of course we will. We have to learn from it and we have to get better, particularly at home when teams sit in and make us break them down.

“We have to be better.”
