Witch way now?

Diana and Matthew arrive in Elizabethan London as the long-awaited second series of the spellbinding show arrives

-

FANS can rejoice at the news that the long wait for series two of this popular fantasy show – based on the bestselling All Souls trilogy of books by Deborah Harkness – is finally over.

And there’ll be even more rejoicing for some of us, when we realise that because our heroic star-crossed lovers have travelled back in time to London in 1590, it means plenty of shots of Matthew Goode wearing tight leather britches and a flowing Mr Darcy-style white shirt.

The former Downton Abbey star plays Matthew Clairmont, a centuries-old vampire with quite the fashion sense and a roguish charm, who is in love with and in a relationship with reluctant witch Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer).

Theirs is a forbidden love, transcending the different species, that nobody approves of, and which they need to keep secret.

Knowing they’re being hunted, the couple have decided to use Diana’s timewalking skills to travel back to Elizabethan London to try and find the mysterious and elusive Book of Life.

They also need to find a powerful witch who can train Diana to help develop her magic skills, and eventually get them back home to the present day.

The cast includes the likes of Trevor Eve, Alex Kingston, Lindsay

Duncan, Louise Brealey and Sophia Myles.

And for series two,

Victoria star Tom Hughes joins as Matthew’s Elizabethan friend Kit Marlowe (who’s secretly a daemon), with other new names including James Purefoy, Elaine Cassidy and the new honoured

Dame Sheila Hancock.
