Work to begin on improving the cycle lanes in Hessle Road
IMPROVEMENT WORKS TO BUSY CITY ROUTE EXPECTED TO LAST SIX WEEKS
WORK to improve cycle routes in Hessle Road will begin today.
In a six-week consultation, people were asked to share their views on plans to improve cycling in Hessle Road.
The council says this feedback has helped inform the improvement plans for cycling along Hessle Road, and a number of the suggestions received have been incorporated into the revised scheme.
The work, which begins today, involves improving existing cycle lane infrastructure between Brighton Street and Priory Park roundabout.
The proposed scheme will also incorporate wider cycle lanes and introduce flexible bollards in some sections of the road, to provide physical segregation between cyclists and also moving traffic.
Councillor Daren Hale, portfolio holder for economic investment, regeneration and planning, said: “Despite these further lockdown measures, we are continuing with our plans to install safer cycling routes in Hessle Road to ensure that we can keep cyclists safe, and encourage people to use a more sustainable form of transport.
“Cycling is not only good for your personal health and
wellbeing, but also impacts positively on the environment by reducing the number of cars on the road.
“We hope that this will encourage more people to get out and use their bikes as a form of the permitted exercise, as we move towards transforming the way in which people travel in and around the city.”
The work is being carried out by Ashcourt and is expected to last six weeks.
