Mccann: Point was good one

-

GIVEN the backdrop of coronavirus problems, Hull City’s 1-1 draw at Sunderland is a valuable point, admits Grant Mccann.

City took a 13th minute lead at the Stadium of Light through Reece Burke’s cool finish, before a defensive error allowed Aiden Mcgeady to head the hosts level eight minutes later.

Tom Eaves crashed a header off the bar before seeing a goalbound header well saved, as City spurned a host of chances on the road again.

The Tigers welcomed back Callum Elder, Josh Magennis and Burke following their battles with the virus, while James Scott again missed out.

And Mccann admitted that given the troubles his squad faced over the Christmas period and into the New Year, he’s happy with a point to bring back to East Yorkshire.

“It’s a good point away from home,” the City boss said.

“It’s been a disruptive two weeks for us in terms of players we haven’t had available, the Covid situation, and trying to get them back up to speed.

“I thought our defensive shape and organisation were excellent.

“We limited Sunderland to one lapse of concentration from us in the first half.

“In the second half, some balls flashed across our goal but we defended manfully.

“We had the best chances in the game - the chances Tom had in the first half that didn’t go in.

“The boys are heartened by the point.

“We’ve followed up the three points against Charlton against another team that are probably going to be in and around that top six come the end of the season.

“We’re disappointed we didn’t win because we felt as if we had the better chances, but we’ll take the point.”
