EIGHT areas of East Yorkshire are showing high Covid infection rates – but only two are above the national average.

Bricknell East remains the worst area for the weekly rolling coronavirus infection rate, which has been blamed on an outbreak at a care home in the area.

Driffield Central has also seen a big increase in cases, which makes it the worst area in the East Riding.

During the pandemic, Public Health England (PHE) has produced a useful interactive map which displays data showing the rates of coronavirus infection in different areas.

It has opened up a glimpse into the peaks and troughs of infection rates across East Yorkshire.

The map is colour-coded from white, where the virus is being suppressed, through to green, where cases are low, and then through gradually darker shades of blue as the numbers increase, then to a claret colour and finally to a dark brown.

The map provides the sevenday rolling rates are calculated by dividing the seven-day count by the area population and multiplying by 100,000.

The areas on the Public Health England map are not split into council wards but into Middle Layer Super Output Areas (MSOA), which are designed to improve the reporting of localised areas.

East Yorkshire is faring better at the moment than areas of the country.

Bridlington North and Bempton has the lowest weekly rolling rate in the region, which stands at just 80.5 per 100,000 of the population with eight cases.

Withernsea East and Patrington also has a weekly rate under 100, which stands at 92 and also has eight cases.

Plenty of

Riding, as statistics areas across well as the in more

much other the East Newland

Avenues and Sculcoates areas of Hull, are in light blue with weekly rates below 200.

The national average weekly rate is currently 626.1, which means only Bricknell East and Driffield Central are above that figure.

But here are the eight areas which have weekly rates above 400:

Bricknell East – the weekly rate is 661.8 with 53 cases, which is a rise of 15.

Driffield Central – the weekly rate is 626.9 with 40 cases, which is a rise of 28.

■ Ings – the weekly rate is 601.6 with 41 cases, which is a rise of 19.

■ Pocklington – the weekly rate is 527.9 with 64 cases, which is a rise of 23.

■ Bransholme East – the weekly rate is 493.7 with 43 cases, which is a rise of 14.

■ Bilton Grange – the weekly rate is 462.1 with 31 cases, which is a rise of 17.

■ Newington – the weekly rate is 448.4 with 36 cases, which is a rise of one.

■ Hessle West – the weekly rate is 426.2 with 27 cases, which is a rise of 13.
