SOME PARENTS ARE WORKING FROM HOME

PARENTS at an East Riding school have been told to “carefully consider” if they need to send their children into class during lockdown following an abuse of critical worker places.

Carole Fulstow, headteacher at Elloughton Primary School has written to parents to tell them she has “sadly” discovered some parents who have requested critical worker places are actually working from home, and therefore she says should not be sending their children into school.

In her letter, Mrs Fulstow reminds parents the definition of a critical worker, explaining it is someone whose occupation is “critical” to the

Covid-19 pandemic response or EU transition.

She urges anyone who has wrongly taken up a place at the school to stop sending their children immediately, and warns if numbers don’t reduce, a “priority list” will be made by the school.

The letter says: “We ask all parents whose child is currently accessing school to consider carefully if their place is absolutely essential.

“All parents and carers, including those who are critical workers should keep their child at home where possible.

“Sadly, we are aware that some parents who have requested places are actually working from home, therefore their child should not be attending school. This does not apply to vulnerable children.

“In light of the Local Authority directive, if we are unable to reduce pupil numbers we may have to prioritise and unfortunately withdraw places that have already been offered.”

If numbers at the school don’t reduce, Mrs Fulstow has told parents the priority order will be as follows:

Vulnerable children identified as those with an assigned social worker or an EHCP.

Other vulnerable categories identified in the guidance.

Pupils with two parents whose occupations are critical to the Covid-19 pandemic response or EU transition.

Pupils who one parent, whose occupations are critical to the Covid-19 pandemic response or EU transition.
