Further 24 Covid deaths at weekend

A FURTHER 24 deaths have sadly been reported in Hull’s hospitals over the weekend - with 12 deaths on Saturday alone and a further six on both Friday and yesterday.

It follows the deadliest day for Covid-related deaths ever at both Hull Royal Infirmary, pictured, and Castle Hill Hospital last week, which saw a total of 13 deaths recorded in one 24-hour period.

It sadly takes the total amount of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 578, 90 of which have occurred in January alone.

A further 459 confirmed coronaviru­s cases were also revealed over the weekend in both Hull and East Riding, taking the total for both areas since the start of the pandemic to 28,844.

This comes as the latest figures have been revealed for yesterday which saw 85 more cases in Hull and 97 in East Riding, a total of

182 between both areas.

It takes the cumulative rate of infection in Hull per 100,000 of the population to 5,717.2 since the pandemic. In East Riding, the rate stands at 4,101.1.

In a breakdown of the figures over the weekend, Friday, January 15, revealed there were 85 new cases in Hull and 97 in the East Riding, a total of 182 new cases within a 24-hour period.

Saturday saw and increase of 146 cases, 70 of which were in Hull and 76 in East Riding.

Nationally, figures show there have now been 105,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on yesterday, there had been a further 38,598 confirmed cases in the UK., bringing the total number of cases in the UK to 3,395,959.
