A MOTHER-OF-TWO threatened to stab a man in the stomach and up to his chest in a “disgraceful” attack that left her victim cowering in a corner.

The victim was attacked by Spice addict Candice Ahamed, a 32-year-old mum-of-two, and accomplice Karl Rea outside a block of high-rise flats in Cambridge Street in Hull.

The victim spotted Rea, 42, running towards him and tried to escape to the safety of the nearby tower block. However, he stumbled and fell and Rea kicked him as he lay on the ground.

Ahamed, 32, then joined in on the attack and picked up the victim’s keys. He managed to get up from the ground and make his way to the entrance but without his keys could not get in. Ahamed then began kicking and punching him again.

CCTV footage showed both Rea and Ahamed getting up close to the victim and shouting in his face.

Ahamed continued to hit and spit at him before telling him to empty his pockets and saying “if I see you again I’m going to stab you in the stomach and up to your chest”. She and Rea then went to the nearby Goodwin Resource Centre and threw the victim’s keys and shoes onto the roof.

The whole incident lasted approximately ten minutes and left the victim so scared he did not want to leave his home.

The pair appeared at Hull Crown Court on January 15 with Rea being sentenced for affray and Ahamed for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

“The attack was utterly disgraceful,” said Judge John Thackray. “It was appalling. I have seen the CCTV. The complainant must have been terrified throughout and his physical were significant but they could have been far worse.

“It is understandable he was too scared to leave his own home and he was left cowering in the corner.”

Rea was also facing a sentence for possession of a bladed article after police received reports of a group of people with weapons in William Street, Hull City Centre, a day after the incident in Cambridge Street. He was captured on CCTV brandishing a large knife and shouting at someone.

Rea has 29 convictions for 81 offences on his record including assaulting occasioning actual bodily harm, assaulting a police officer and two convictions for possession of an offensive weapon.

“Clearly, this is deeply unpleasant offending,” said mitigating barrister Julia Baggs on behalf of Rea.

“However, this defendant was of the understanding that the coaccused had difficulties with the complainant where she had been attacked in a robbery. It is not an excuse but perhaps offers some sort of explanation.”

She said Rea had a problem with

“long-standing Class A drug misuse” although had been getting himself off drugs.

Ahamed had a record for dishonesty but she has also been convicted of common assault, battery and assaults on a designated worker and an emergency worker.

“This is a despicable incident,” said Charlotte Baines, mitigating barrister for Ahamed. “The defendant is remorseful.

“She has had somewhat a wretched life having been out of care from a very young age.

“She has not spoken to her mother since she was 14 who had difficulty with drugs and introduced the defendant to illicit substances. This led to a battle with drug addiction for a number of years.

“At the time of the offence she had been clean from heroin for two-and-a-half years. Sadly, as is often the case, they move from one substance to another and she had been taking spice in relation to incident in question.”

Ms Baines added that Ahamed is a mother of two and that she wants to “turn her life around”.

Rea was sentenced to 18 months in prison for the offence of affray with a further three months added on top for the charge of possession of a blade.

Ahamed will also spend 21 months in prison for assault occasioning actual bodily harm after the incident on October 19 last year.
