De Wijs: It’s brilliant to be back in the Championship
JORDY de Wijs admits the chance to return to the Championship was a chance too good to turn down.
The Dutch defender joined QPR on Thursday after agreeing his exit from Hull City for the remainder of the season.
Should the move work out, de Wijs’ move to Loftus Road will become permanent in the summer and bring to an end his three-year association with the Tigers.
Regarded as one of the better defenders in the second tier last season, de Wijs’ form took a nosedive as City’s campaign crumbled to an embarrassing relegation.
Despite starting the campaign as Grant Mccann’s first choice centre-back with Reece Burke, the 26-year-old found himself ousted by highlyrated local Jacob Greaves, with his last outing coming in the FA Cup defeat to Stevenage at the end of November.
“I am really happy,” he told the Rangers website.
“This is a step up again and I am very happy to be here.
“This is a big club with a good stadium, great fans and for me it is brilliant to be back in the Championship and play at this level again.”
“I am a defender with abilities to play football.
“I am a robust defender. I like to get challenges in and don’t mind a bit of physical contact!
“As a person, I am honest and direct.”
“I want to get myself match fit and play as many games as possible.
Hopefully it won’t take too long. I will do everything to be back on the pitch as soon as possible and give everything for this club.”
