CARAVAN WORKER NEEDED SIX STITCHES FOR GASH ON CHEEK

AN argument between two caravan workers ended up with one being slashed in the face on the factory floor.

Kyle Eade and his colleague were working at Willerby Ltd in east Hull when they fell out over who should be carrying out which task.

The confrontation became physical and Eade pushed his colleague but forgot he was holding a knife for work purposes at the time.

Eade inadvertently slashed the colleague’s cheek, which resulted in the victim needing hospital treatment.

At Hull Crown Court on Monday, Eade admitted grievous bodily harm by wounding without intent following the assault on May 4, 2019.

The court heard how the knife wound caused a 2.5cm gash in the victim’s face which required six stitches.

A victim impact statement was read out at court, which said: “The injury was very painful at the time which needed stitches and has left me with a visible scar.

“I take pride in my appearance but now I have to grow stubble to hide the scar even though I prefer to be clean-shaven.

“I feel self-conscious and the scar is a constant reminder of what happened.”

The problems were compounded by the victim feeling he had to quit after Willerby Ltd did not dismiss Eade initially.

Eade was dismissed later, after the victim several weeks quit, due to the amount of time he had off.

The victim said in his statement: “I am still unemployed after I left because Kyle was not dismissed.

“I was uncomfortable to still be working so close to him and I felt I had no choice but to leave. I did not feel safe.

“I enjoyed coming to work prior to that and I have found it difficult to get another job.”

Eade told the court he was surprised the matter ended up in court as he apologised to the victim at the time and shook hands on it.

Judge Mark Bury told Eade that had there been any intent in causing the knife injury then he would be in prison.

He told Eade: “If I thought you had deliberately stuck this knife in the victim’s face then you would be going to prison for two years.

“But it seems to be you got into an argument, pushed him and didn’t realise you had the knife in your hand. You are guilty of the offence because you were reckless.

“I accept you apologised and did not intend such harm to come to the victim.

“I am concerned by the effect this has had on the victim, but you are of previous good character.

“Why he felt he needed to quit his job I am not sure about and it is a shame he has not obtained another since.”

Eade was handed a two-year community order and has been ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work. He will also have to pay his victim £500 compensation.
