City’s Crowley: It would be great to get promotion

-

DAN Crowley’s aim at Hull City is a simple one, to get promoted.

The talented midfielder will spend the second half of what he hopes will be a promotion-winning campaign at the KCOM Stadium, as he instantly targets a return to the Championship and silverware in the Papa John’s Trophy.

City beat off a number of other clubs including Charlton to secure the highlyrated playmaker, with the 23-year-old admitting head coach Grant Mccann played a big part in convincing him to move from Birmingham City.

“Speaking to the gaffer, I really like how he wants to try and play, and it would be great to get a promotion,” he told the club website.

“It’s just a really good club. I remember playing against them last season; a lot of good players and a good style of play so it was really hard to turn down.

“He wants me to come and play, to express myself and enjoy my football again which is perfect for me really, because I haven’t played for a while.

“That’s all I want to do, is come, enjoy my football and play again.”

Crowley’s last appearance in the Championship for Birmingham came against Sheffield Wednesday in October, with Blues boss Aitor Karanka then opting for a change in system which proved to be to the 23-year-old’s detriment.

Following Karanka’s suggesting that playing time at St Andrew’s would be limited, Crowley was keen, he says, to seek regular football and not sit around kicking his heels hoping a chance might drop for him.

“I’m not the sort of person who doesn’t mind sitting around waiting to see what happens, I want to play every week and that’s why it’s perfect for me here because I think I’ve got the chance to do that,” he said, before comparing the two divisions. “They’re both very similar leagues, but I think League One is just as tough as the Championship and I can’t wait for the challenge.”

Early next month there’s also a Papa John’s Trophy quarter-final to look forward to, with Mccann’s men just two games away from a showpiece final at Wembley.
