TRIBUTES have continued to flood in for 17-year-old Connor Lyons after police announced that a murder investigation has now been launched into his death.

The teenager’s body was tragically discovered at 8.20am on Tuesday, January 19, after police were called to the banks of the River Hull in Ennerdale.

A post mortem examination was carried out on Wednesday and one man is now in custody while another is helping police with their inquiries.

People have continued to pay their respects following the awful news.

Some of Connor’s former teachers have posted tributes online. One woman said she had started working at a school Connor had attended just as he had joined.

She said: “We built a really good working relationship during his time there. Such a good kid with lovely manners and always asking questions about my life and I would listen to his stories. Absolutely gutted to hear the news.”

Another woman described Connor as a “lovable rogue with respect and manners”.

She added: “Sleep tight Connor, you’ll be missed. Sending love to the family.”

Another said: “This is heartbreaking news, massive condolences to his family and friends.

“Fly high Connor, by the sounds of it you have left so many memories of your life and your parents would have been so proud of you.”

Another person added: “Thinking of your mam, dad and family and friends - worse pain in the world to be going through, you will be in my thoughts.”

Another woman said: “17 is no age and he’s been robbed of his childhood, adulthood and the rest of his life and for what?

“This is awful. Thinking of all his family and friends at this sad time - RIP Connor, hope there’s justice for you.”

One man said: “So sad, so young. How can people do this?

“Fly high with all the other angels, thoughts go out to his mum and dad and family and friends.”

Another added: “Rest peacefully young fella, there’s some bad people in this world, so awful.

“Thinking of Connor’s family and friends at this devastating time, heartbreaking.”

And one woman said: “Absolutely heartbreaking, such a sad end to a beautiful young life.

“All your life ahead of you too, so sad. Fly high young man.”

One of Connor’s friends has now set up a Just Giving page to raise funds to support his family.

“Our good friend Connor’s life was taken far too soon,” he said.

“He was a very well known lad across Hull, the devastating news has affected us all. Fly high brother, sleep tight.”

Yesterday morning, Humberside Police Detective Chief Inspector Rhod Troake confirmed that a murder investigation had been launched following the discovery of Connor’s body on Monday.

A spokesperson for the force said: “One man is in custody, with another assisting with our enquiries.

“We are supporting his family at this very difficult time and out of respect for Mr Lyons and his family, we ask that their privacy is respected.

“Our thoughts are with his loved ones.

“If you have any information that could assist our investigation, please call our nonemergency 101 line, quoting log number 80 of 19 January.”
