-

A DEVASTATING 18 more Covidpositive patients at Hull’s hospitals have died which is the most recorded in one day since the pandemic began.

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust confirmed there had been 18 more deaths, which includes two more on January 7, which is the deadliest day so far and brings the total of Covid patient deaths on that one day to 16.

Another death occurred on January 8 while there were seven deaths on January 19 and eight more on January 20.

That brings the total number of deaths at either Hull Royal Infirmary or Castle Hill Hospital since the pandemic began to 619.

That means hundreds of families across Hull and the East Riding have lost loved ones since the virus arrived early last year.

East Riding Council’s public health chief Andy Kingsom last week warned it could be a while before the situation in hospitals improves.

He said “appalling” death rates would continue to rise before they fall. The director said: “Thankfully we haven’t seen death rates quite as high in the East Riding and Hull.

“But we’ve probably got another month before mortality drops, it’ll be the last of the indicators to fall.”
