Keane Lewis-potter admits it was a nice feeling to be back in the Hull City team from the start, after playing an integral role in the Tigers’ impressive 3-0 win over Accrington Stanley on Tuesday.

Lewis-potter ended a difficult few weeks by signing a new contract at the KCOM Stadium on Monday, and was immediately handed his first start since contract talks stalled back in November.

The 19-year-old created the opener for Mallik Wilks in the first half, as City assumed control against their promotion rivals in what was a dominant display.

Potter lasted 65 minutes, coming off after Gavin Whyte had pounced to make it 2-0 to be replaced by Josh Magennis, who netted a penalty with his first touch to round off the scoring.

“It was great to be back out there again and most importantly, we got the three points. Three goals and it could have been a lot more,” Lewispotter told the club website.

“Gav’s (Gavin Whyte) given me the ball back, there’s two or three around me and I’ve tried a little piece of skill and thankfully it’s come off.

“Mallik was in the right position, I thought I’d slide him through and it’s a great finish from him.”

Lewis-potter saw an effort blocked, while Wilks shot over as City threatened to inflict further damage in the first half, while Wilks and substitute Dan Crowley passed up good chances in the second to add further gloss to an already positive scoreline.

“On another night, it could have been four or five, maybe,” said the teenager.

“We got the three goals and we move on.”

The Hull-born youngster revealed his relief at getting the contract agreed in a week where City face a trip to third-placed Portsmouth, before the return game with Stanley at the Wham Stadium next week.

“I’m buzzing to get it done, I can start games and that’s the main thing for me, once it was done I can start games and crack on.

“I hope I can get back in the side against Portsmouth and it’ll be a tough one against Accrington next Tuesday, so hopefully we can get maximum points out of both.”
