Plans for town’s first multi-storey car park
PLANS have been unveiled for Bridlington’s first ever multistorey car park.
East Riding Council has released images of the proposed three-storey building earmarked for a site off Hilderthorpe Road and Beck Hill near the town centre.
The land is currently used as a surface car park and lies next to the Gypsey Race watercourse.
The council has launched an online-only public consultation over the scheme due to the current Covid-19 restrictions ahead of submitting a full planning application.
If given the go-ahead, the new car park would provide 431 parking spaces with 25 dedicated accessible spaces for disabled drivers, eight motorcycle bays and a number of electric vehicle charging points.
There will also be an undercroft area providing 16 private commercial parking spaces.
The council says parking charges at the new complex will be in line with other council-owned car parks in the town.
Councillor Chris Matthews, portfolio holder for strategic property and infrastructure at East Riding Council, said: “The proposed new car park at Beck Hill will support our ongoing plans for regeneration and growth of Bridlington town centre by providing modern and well-lit parking in a convenient location.
“The proposals will help increase footfall in the town centre while reducing highways congestion currently caused as cars circling the area looking for spaces.
“Before we submit a planning application, we are keen to hear what the people of Bridlington think of the proposals and this public online consultation will give everyone to review our plans.”
Initial views on the scheme should submitted online before February 14, at www.beckhillmscp consultation.co.uk
