Accused killer in court as police divers search river
INVESTIGATION INTO DEATH OF CONNOR LYONS, 17, CONTINUES
POLICE divers have searched the banks of the River Hull in Ennerdale as the murder investigation into the death of 17-year-old Connor Lyons continues.
Connor Lyons’ body was discovered near the banks of the river at just after 8.20am on Tuesday, January 19, and a murder inquiry was launched.
His accused killer, 21-year-old Cole Jarvis, of Stroud Crescent West in Bransholme, appeared in Hull Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning charged with murder, and the case was sent to Hull Crown Court.
He appeared in crown court at 12.30pm yesterday, where Judge John Thackray set a trial date of September 13. It is expected to last up to ten days.
Jarvis is next due to appear in court for a pre-trial hearing on April 12.
Elsewhere yesterday, a group of four divers from the Regional Marine Unit were at the scene where Connor’s body was discovered.
Floral tributes to Connor have preparation
been left at the scene. Balloons, candles and bottles of whisky have also been left out in commemoration of the teen.
Over the weekend, his good friend Brad Wilson, also 17, said he had been “left in a state of shock” when he heard the news of Connor’s tragic passing.
“He was one of our lads,” he said. “It is awful to think that this happened to one of our boys.
“He was a good friend of mine. We had a really good friendship and had a good laugh in town and around Bransholme with all of our friends.”
Some of Connor’s former teachers, who were left “absolutely gutted” when they heard the news, described the teenager as a “lovable rogue with respect and manners”.
Brad said Connor was one of
those people who “got along with everybody” and it is no surprise that so many have paid tribute to his good friend.
Brad has also set up a crowdfunding page hoping to raise £1,500 to help ease the stress of Connor’s family during this difficult time. If you wish to donate, you can do so by visiting www.justgiving.com/crowd funding/brad-wilson-1
A total of £900 had been raised for the Justgiving page in two days and Brad hopes they can exceed their £1,500 target.
“Anything we can get, we are grateful. It will take a lot of stress off his mum and family. Hopefully, we can exceed our goal.
“At the moment, my aim is to raise as much money for the funeral as I can.”
