A MUCH anticipated homecoming double header of gigs by Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott has been postponed for a third time.

Hull legend Paul Heaton was due to reunite with singer Jacqui Abbott at the city’s Bonus Arena in April; the shows are now scheduled to take place on Sunday and Monday, October 24 and 25, 2021.

The pair were originally billed to perform in April and then October of 2020, for a special two-night set of songs from their top five albums, alongside classic tracks from The Beautiful

South and The Housemartins.

The performances were cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The singers said: “We’re very sorry and enormously frustrated to have to make this announcement, but due to the ongoing situation and social-distancing rules around the UK and Ireland, we have once again been forced into rescheduling our forthcoming tour dates.

“We’ve now moved the UK dates to October 2021 and we’re still working on new dates for Ireland, which will be announced at some point in the coming weeks.

“Your tickets remain valid for all the new dates. We’re extremely sorry for any inconvenience caused by this, but can’t wait to see and perform for you all. ‘Til then stay safe.”

Paul and Jacqui performed a very intimate gig at Hull’s HMV in July 2017 and teamed up again in September 2018 for their track 7’’ Singles, the music video of which was filmed in Paul’s former local pub, The Grafton, off Newland Avenue.

After a string of top 40 singles, including Caravan of Love and Happy Hour, The Housemartins split in 1988, with Paul going on to form The Beautiful South.

Jacqui joined The Beautiful South in the mid-1990s, singing alongside Paul on some of the group’s biggest hits, including Rotterdam and Don’t Marry Her.
