HULL KR half-back Jordan Abdull has suffered a fresh injury blow after tearing a quad in training.

The 24-year-old missed the start of pre-season after undergoing surgery on a knee injury sustained in the final game of last year against old club Hull FC.

He was recently given the green light to begin full training but has aggravated an old quad issue.

Rovers head coach Tony Smith is hopeful that Abdull will return to training in the middle of this month but it represents another setback for a player who endured an injury-hit start to 2020.

The playmaker injured his shoulder in round one and then picked up an ankle problem on his return to the side a fortnight later, restricting him to one Super League start before the shutdown.

KR will need Abdull to hit the ground running this season after opting for a youthful half-back department.

“He returned to full training and now he’s had a little tear in his quad,” Smith told the Mail.

“Jordan isn’t taking too many tricks at the moment. Apparently it’s a bit of an old injury that flared up.

“We’re not sure whether it’s a case of too much, too soon or it would have happened anyway.

“It was not long after we started on the artificial grass over at the university so maybe that had some influence on it too.

“He’d just returned to full training and he picked up this tear in his quad. I’d be hopeful that going to be too long with it.

“Hopefully he’s back in training within the next week or so rather than a month. At this stage we think it’s going to be relatively soon.”

Young prop Anesu Mudoti is another player who has been forced to sit out training due to a fresh hamstring issue.

KR are otherwise relatively healthy as they continue their preparations for the start of the new season on March 25. he’s not

“We had a concussion the other day with a player who had to sit out physically for the week,” said Smith.

“We’ve had the odd person who has tightened up in their calf or their quad and hasn’t trained.

“Ane has tweaked his hamstring. We’re not sure whether it’s scar tissue from the original tear in his hamstring or whether it’s something else. He’s not at full strength at the moment.

“Aside good.” from that we’re pretty
