Grant Mccann believes Mallik Wilks’ loss of goalscoring form isn’t due to personal issues off the pitch. Wilks had a disappointing afternoon at Burton on

Saturday, as Hull City were humbled by League One’s bottom team 1-0 at the Pirelli Stadium.

The 22-year-old striker has gone four games without a goal for the Tigers, his joint-longest run of what has been a profitable campaign for the ex-barnsley frontman.

Speaking after Saturday’s damaging defeat to the Brewers, Mccann revealed Wilks was dealing with issues away from his work.

“There’s things that are happening in Mallik’s personal life that I would rather not discuss,” Mccann told BBC Humberside.

“Nothing is wrong with Mallik, he’s fine and in a good place in terms of his football, he was just part of a team that lacked any killer instinct in the final third.”

When questioned if the issues were impacting Wilks’ performances, Mccann said not.

“No, I don’t think so, it’s just some stuff in his family life that I’m sure will get sorted out.

“You can ask me about individuals and why he didn’t do this or why he didn’t do that, but I don’t get drawn into that.”

City delivered a below-par display, failing to have a single shot on target in the 90 minutes before conceding in the 90th minute to a goal from one of five debutants, Jonny Smith.

“We lost as a team,” Mccann said.

“That’s football, isn’t it?

“He’s 21 (sic), he’s a keen young boy.

“They’re going to have little dips as the season goes on, Mallik will be fine.”
