TEENAGER from Kingswood has used lockdown to channel his creative energies into writing a novel.

Adam Kerrison, 17, has just self-published his first work, called The Connection, the opener to his planned Operation Epiphany trilogy.

The student at Beverley’s Longcroft Sixth Form College said: “I’ve got this huge feeling of excitement at seeing my book published, and also very much a feeling of relief that it’s done.

“As soon as I’d finished the first novel, though, it was straight onto the second one.”

Adam has been writing since attending St Andrew’s Primary School, in Sutton Park, where he enjoyed creating short stories and poetry, and the ideas for his novel first started shaping up in 2019.

“I first started writing something for it in October 2019, from ideas that stemmed from earlier that year,” he said.

“The Connection is predominantly sci-fi and it’s also about a family

“I planned on making a trilogy because I think that’s the best form of story – the first drafts of my second and third books are already completed.”

Adam has not put an age cap on his work, but he thinks his youngest readers should be around 12 or 13 because of some of the “serious and deep” subjects it explores.

“Lockdown has been a big help, I’ve had to distract myself with something and it has made me focus on finishing the novel.

“I just hope people will read it,” said Adam, who hopes to achieve the A-level grades he needs to study creative writing at university.

Adam’s parents, Sarah and Darius, are pleased that Adam’s perseverance during the pana demic and a period when he has also been home learning has paid off with his novel, which he has published through Amazon’s Kindle direct publishing hub.

Sarah said: “I just feel really proud of him, to be 17 and to have written a full novel is amazing.

“Just having that imagination and putting it all into writing is such an achievement.

“Adam has a little sister, Summer, who is ten and is more into dancing – it’s all about the arts here and we’re loving it.”
