Inspiring Youngster

There are thousands of terrific youngsters out there, but we’re looking for a role model, aged 16 or under, who deserves special recognition. This could be someone who has made a contribution to their community, taken steps to support important causes or fundraising for charities. These young people are the future – they are building their confidence and resilience, and are already working hard to be the change in creating a better world.

Local Hero

Our Local Hero award will recognise remarkable acts of courage or selflessness by an ordinary member of the community. They may have used their initiative in a crisis, tackled criminals or even saved a life? Either way they have acted in a courageous way in their community.

Child of Courage

Do you know a youngster, aged 16 or under, shown outstanding bravery and courage, which may range from a single heroic act through to battling against disability, illness or adversity. This child may have fought against illness or shown bravery beyond their years.

Business in the Community

Businesses across Hull and East Riding make a huge contribution to their community, whether by donating money and time or supporting local causes. This award highlights an exceptional case of a company making a real contribution to their local community.

Emergency Services

We want to honour our key workers working in the emergency services sector who are there to protect and serve the public, keeping us safe and well, day and night over 365 days a year.

Community Sports

This award will recognise an outstanding example of an unsung hero in the field of amateur or junior sport. Behind the scenes of every club or team is someone who does the crucial jobs that are often taken for granted. This award is about honouring the coaches, captains, chairmen, groundsmen, scorers, secretaries, treasurers, organisers, anyone at all who is vital to the running of the club or team.

Parent/guardian of the Year

It could be a parent who selflessly gives up their life to care for their child, or a guardian who dedicates their time to fostering children. It could also be a parent who, despite their own challenges, always puts their children first.

Charity Champion

Our Charity Champion will highlight an individual or group whose charitable work has made a significant impact to a worthy cause. This could be someone who raises money regularly or who has generated significant funds for a chosen charity or charities, awareness for a cause or has been a selfless voluntary worker for a number of years.

Friend/neighbour of the Year

We are celebrating those unsung heroes who have put themselves out to improve the lives of those around them. Do you know someone who helps their neighbours by running errands, someone who keeps an eye on people living alone or has helped out in a remarkable way during the pandemic?

It’s time to show your appreciation for the key workers within our community. Some have risked their lives, others have kept the wheels of industry turning – whether you’re in health and social care, the communication sector, work in public safety, transport or you work in food production/delivery or education, we want to hear from you.
