Broadbent pens new deal to extend his stay at the Rhinos
PROMISING Leeds Rhinos centre Jack Broadbent has signed a new two-year deal that will keep him at Headingley until at least the end of 2022.
The 20-year-old made his Super League debut last year, his first of three appearances as Richard Agar gave his youngsters opportunities amid a gruelling schedule.
Broadbent showed his versatility by filling in at stand-off in inexperienced teams but will be vying with the likes of Konrad Hurrell, Harry Newman and Liam Sutcliffe for a centre spot in 2021.
“I’m flying in pre-season at the moment and I am loving it,” Broadbent said.
“I have been able to set some personal bests in the tests and gym work we do and that is giving me a lot of confidence for this year.
“I’ve never felt better and the challenge now is to try and stay fresh so I can keep striving forward every day.
“A year ago I was lucky enough to play in the Rob Burrow game in front of a full stadium and that feeling has stayed with me and I want to do everything I can to get that opportunity again.”
Rhinos head coach Agar says Broadbent, who has previously gained experience with Featherstone
Rovers and Batley Bulldogs, is doing everything he can in training to push himself into contention.
“Jack is working incredibly hard in pre-season and has made a quality contribution to the group over the last year,” said Agar.
“He is an outstanding young professional who really looks after himself. He thoroughly deserves his new contract and I am looking forward to seeing how he develops.”
