HODGSON GOES ON THE ATTACK AT HULL FC:

- By WILLIAM JACKSON william.jackson@reachplc.com @Williamj93

HULL FC are on track in pre-season as Brett Hodgson looks to make his mark on the Black and Whites’ attack.

The first few weeks of training under the new head coach consisted mainly of fitness exercises and work on the squad’s defensive structure, with Hodgson keen to instil a defence-first mindset at the club’s County Road training ground.

However, with a little over a month of training in the bank, he has stepped up preparations for the new season, which is now around six weeks away.

While conditioning and defensive work will make up a section of the programme in the coming weeks, the head coach is keen to see training take an attacking turn.

As such, FC players will be doing a lot more work with the ball in hand, focusing on offensive structure and shape and growing partnerships across the field, particularly those that are still in their infancy.

“It’s still building on what we’ve done in the first month,” Hodgson told the Mail when asked what the next few weeks of training had in store. We had a very big defensive focus in the first month and now we’ll start introducing some of the shapes we want to go in coming out of yardage and in good ball and how we want to play.

“We’ll still always have that defensive intent in what we’re doing, even when we’re doing attacking shape we’re still going to make sure we’re doing what we need to do defensively so our habits are ingrained come round one.

“There will be more of an attacking focus and looking at how we want to play with the ball. All the players have really bought into what we’ve asked of them which is excellent.”

Hodgson still has plenty of time with his side before the new campaign gets underway, but he hopes to hopes to see his players in action before then. He added: “We’ll get into preparing for some friendlies, if we can sort that out and confirm that soon, then we’ll look to head into the start of the season.”

All the players have really bought into what we’ve asked of them which is excellent.
