Covid-19 vaccine patients left ‘standing in the cold for hours’
APPARENT TIMING MISHAP AT VACCINATION CENTRE
VULNERABLE people claim they have been left “standing in the cold” for hours over an apparent vaccine timing mishap.
People from across Hull and the East Riding say they were given appointment times by their GPS for their Covid-19 vaccines on Saturday, February 20, at Willerby Hill, only to be then left waiting for hours.
One man said his sister was still waiting over an hour and a half after her appointment was due. He said her appointment was due to be at 2pm, but she was still waiting at 3.30pm.
Another man, who has Gillian-barre Syndrome, a rare autoimmune disease, said that he was told by his GP his appointment would be at 3pm, but he had still not been seen at 3.30pm.
He said: “I drove here and upon exiting the A164 roundabout, I was greeted by a queue of traffic blocking the 154 bus from attending the on-site bus stop.
“I was shocked to see this as I was not advised there would be a mass attendance.
“At the front of the queue I was asked a series of screening questions, asked to park and join the back of a secondary queue on foot.
“I’ve been talking to a few of the attendees who were given the same appointment time by their own GP and attended assuming it would be on appointment basis only.
“A few of them didn’t prepare for the long queue outside and neglected to bring coats in the chilly wind. I got to the back of the 530ft queue at 2.58pm.
“I lost my dad in January 2020 and with the pandemic, I was at risk. I’m grateful I didn’t get it and my family could not have handled a second loss after my father so the call from my GP came as a relief.” Another person said it was “crazy” the amount of people waiting for their vaccination.
He said: “It’s not well organised at all.” NHS England and the East Riding CCG have been approached for comment.
