‘The virus is still here and the risk is real’ council warns

COUNCIL bosses are warning that Hull still is among the areas with the highest coronavirus rates in the country, as latest figures reveal more than 50 new cases in the city alone.
The infection rate “is not coming down as needed” meaning residents will be at greater risk of contracting Covid-19, especially when lockdown restrictions begin to be lifted next week.
Despite the partial relaxation from
March 8, “the risk is real” according to Hull City Council, which issued an update calling on people to remain vigilant and protect each other.
Across East Yorkshire, another 102 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in government data released yesterday.
Of those, 57 were detected in Hull along with a further 45 in the neighbouring East Riding region.
The seven-day rolling infection rate for Hull is now 160.9. The cumulative rate, which counts the positive tests carried out for every 100,000 people since the pandemic began, is now 6,813.9.
In the neighbouring authority area those figures are 83.2 and 4,950.6.
The warning issued by Hull’s council said: “Hull’s coronavirus rate is not coming down as needed and is among the highest in the country. It is vital we all follow the rules. The virus is still here, the risk is real. Protect others, protect yourself.”
In total, 17,701 positive tests have been carried out since the pandemic started in Hull. That figure is 16,890 in the East Riding.
Sadly, one further death was also confirmed between Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital yesterday. So far, the local death toll is now 804.
Nationally, the Government has said a further 242 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Thursday, bringing the UK total to 124,025.
The Government also said that, as of 9am yesterday, there had been a further 6,573 lab-confirmed cases in the UK, bringing the total to 4,201,358.
