MANU Ma’u hopes to give Hull FC fans something to shout about next year after agreeing a new deal with the club.

The back-rower has penned a one-year extension at the MKM Stadium with the deal running until the end of the 2022 season.

Ma’u was one of FC’S most impressive performers under Brett Hodgson this year and he was given the captaincy for the final game of the Super League season in the absence of the Black and Whites’ three co-captains.

The 33-year-old joined the club ahead of the 2020 Super League campaign from Parramatta Eels and he has since made 33 appearances.

However, after signing on for another 12 months, he is keen to help Hull bounce back after a testing finish to the campaign.

“It was a disappointing end to the year and I was really gutted with the way it finished,” Ma’u told the club website after penning the deal.

“I want to stay next year and prove we can perform at a much better standard, because I know what we are capable of.

“I love playing games here in England because of the atmosphere. You don’t get that in the NRL and it gives you a buzz.

“The derby is something in particular I want to be a part of again. The game in August was my first derby in front of fans and

I would love to play in that fixture again and we want to be able to give something back to the fans.”

Hodgson was understandably keen to see Ma’u stick around in East Yorkshire and after seeing him sign on for another year, he underlined the back-rower’s importance to the squad.

“Manu has been excellent for us this season - he’s shown some real character and led by example throughout the campaign,” Hodgson added.

“He’s got better with every game throughout the season and adds some real prowess to our options at back-row.

“We’re delighted to have him tied down for another year and to continue to be a really key leadership figure within the group.”
