CITY YOUNG GUNS HAVE BIG FUTURES
CANNON BACKS HULL-BORN STARS TO MAKE THEIR MARK
ANDY Cannon believes Hull City’s crop of young players have what it takes to enjoy bright futures in the game.
The summer arrival from Portsmouth admits to being impressed with what he’s seen from Grant Mccann’s youngsters in the opening weeks of the Championship season, even though results suggest the Tigers have found it tough going.
Saturday’s 2-0 win over Middlesbrough was their first home win of the campaign and first anywhere since the opening day, to lift confidence ahead of the international break.
Two of those players so key in that victory over Boro were Jacob Greaves and Keane Lewis-potter, with Cannon praising the local Hull-born duo.
“The young lads are superb, they’ve got a big, bright future ahead of them, they’re really good players,” Cannon said. “I’ve played with a lot of players who are that age over the years, I’ve come here and said to a lot of people that players like Keano and Greavsey for their age are superb and with experience they’re only going to get better and better.”
City went nine games without a win before the weekend, losing six of those, but Cannon says the players must remain positive and believe that things can change quickly, particularly the younger members of Mccann’s squad.
“From last year, they’ve obviously had a great time winning most games and being champions of League One to now where it’s been a tough start in the Championship which can only be a learning experience for them.
“It’s a learning experience for everyone, if you get over these times and we can get a win and then on a winning streak, football can change really quickly. They’re going to have very bright futures.”
