FANS have been left stunned as Marilyse and Franky from Married At First Sight UK have announced that they have split up.

Married At First Sight UK came to an end this week, with the infamous reunion episode airing on Monday night.

The social experiment pairs people together based on who they are “scientifically” the most compatible with.

The couples will then meet their partner for the first time on their wedding day.

The show proved to be a massive success, drawing E4’s highest ever viewing figures for an original series, with more than one million viewers per episode.

One couple that drew a lot of interest was Marilyse Corrigan, a mum-of-two from Beverley, and Franky Spencer, a former commando who had been living in Dubai for the past 16 years.

The announcement from Marilyse yesterday on Instagram that her and Franky have split will come as a shock to many viewers, as the couple looked to be one of the strongest by the end of the series.

This was not always the case, however.

The couple had a turbulent journey on the show, with many accusing Franky of being “controlling” and not having Marilyse’s best interests at heart.

This all came to a head at a dinner party when Franky told

Marilyse: “When I speak, don’t speak.”

The couple bounced back from this low point, with Franky impressing Marilyse’s friends and family at the homestay portion of the experiment, before dropping the bombshell that he would be willing to move back from Dubai to start a life with Marilyse in the UK.

The couple then went from strength to strength, committing themselves to each other at the final vow renewal ceremony, before arriving at the reunion episode looking very much in love.

They even revealed that Franky had moved back to the UK and had been living in the same town as Marilyse, which made her announcement over social media all the more surprising.

On Instagram, Marilyse wrote: Unfortunately @fitcoachfranky and myself have separated in recent weeks.

“But, we remain good friends. We went through a crazy experience together over a 6 month period which we will never have with anyone else.

“So many special memories. I wish you Franky lots of happiness, you are an awesome, kind hearted, incredible guy! Thank you for sharing this experience with me.”

For all of the fans who are shocked at this admission, there will be just as many who are not surprised at all.

There was a large cohort of viewers across the series who did not believe that the pair would last.

After an unforgettable six months, many will be asking: what’s next for Marilyse?
