-

DRIFFIELD duo David Kitching (16) and Michael Parker (6.8) took advantage of their home course to win the first Alliance of the Scarborough & District Golf Association 2021-22 Winter season.

In a field of 140+ golfers drawn from the nine Association member clubs, Kitching and Parker topped a flurry of low scores, breaking the iconic 60 barrier with an 11-under-par 59, this being sufficient to take top honours by the narrowest of margins.

One shot back were the North Cliff duo of S. Boddy (2.5) and D. Watts (8.9) who had a shot in hand over the third placed pairing, Filey’s J. Rayner (2.4) and K. Keenan (7.2).

With eight pairs to count from each club the

Fell trophy looked to be heading for Filey with two thirds of the clubs back in the clubhouse but it was not to be as a late surge from North Cliff and the home club saw Filey relegated to joint third place with the Scarborough club taking the honours with a score of 521, 11 shots clear of Driffield with Whitby and Filey bracketed together in third on 534.
