A STUDENT from the city has quit his studies to become a Domino’s pizza worker in Hull after admitting beating up his university friends during a drink-fuelled rampage.

Jacob Oliver, 20, appeared at Teesside Magistrates’ Court this week over assaulting the two women who he had been friends with for eight months after meeting at university.

The trio had been out drinking together on the night of the attack, with Oliver being teased by one of the girls over which of them he “liked”.

Prosecutor Alan Davison said how the trio had been friends for about eight months and had been out socialising at the Dickens Inn in Middlesbrough before the incident on April 20.

Oliver, of Hartford Walk in Hull, had taken offence over a comment “as to which of the two young ladies he was infatuated with”.

“They headed back to the university campus and he fell over,” said Mr Davison.

One of the victims tried to help him up but Oliver “told her to f**k off and said he didn’t like her and said he felt angry”.

Back at the halls of residence, Oliver was seen sitting on the floor before getting up and assaulting both young women.

The shocking attack was captured on CCTV at the halls of residence.

The court heard that Oliver pulled the hair of one of the victims and then kicked her in the head.

The footage also showed him punching and headbutting walls and knocking over the hand sanitiser in the lobby.

After watching the CCTV footage at Teesside Magistrates’ Court, District Judge Clare Davies told Oliver the attack was “appalling”.

The court heard Oliver had drunk more alcohol that night than ever before and had not touched booze again since the incident.

The 20-year-old left the university after the attack and returned home to Hull and now works at a Domino’s Pizza shop.

“The man who presents today is a quiet man. He says he’s never going to drink again because he doesn’t want to be that man again,” said Nick Ayres, defending.

He had also made a self-referral for an anger management course in Hull, said Mr Ayres. District Judge Davies said it was an “appalling” attack, which was “prolonged and persistent”.

She gave him a 12-month community order with 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days, a Skills for Relationships programme and ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

A 12-month restraining order was also made in respect of one of his victims and he was ordered to pay the women a total of £225 compensation.

Oliver must also pay court costs and charges of £180.
