TWO men have been arrested following an alleged rape in a west Hull park.

Humberside Police have confirmed the arrests after a woman was reportedly raped, attacked and robbed in a shocking attack in Bean Street, Hull in the early hours of Tuesday, September 14.

The woman was badly beaten and her mobile phone was stolen after the alleged attack at around 4.40am in the park at the bottom of the street.

Police conducted house-to-house inquiries in the following days as part of the investigation.

A spokesman for the police said: “We currently have two people on bail in relation to this investigation. They are both subject to strict curfews and bail conditions.

Last month, a pensioner told the Mail of the moment he heard a knock on the door close to the park in the early hours and was met by a sobbing woman covered in blood.

The 84-year-old resident who lives near the park said: “It was about 4.30am and naturally I was in bed when I heard this knock. I wasn’t sure at first but there was another knock.

“I went downstairs and asked who it was and I just heard this woman sobbing.”

“When I opened the door I saw this woman covered in blood. She had nothing on from her waist down, no underwear or anything.

“I brought her inside and immediately called for the police and an ambulance. The woman was in a terrible state and she was clutching the attacker’s sweat shirt in her hand which was also covered in blood.”

Bean Street is one of the cheapest streets to live in Hull but it is an area previously plagued by drugs and antisocial behaviour.

Just a few years ago, Bean Street park was attracting drinkers while drug users were spotted shooting up in broad daylight.

The resident who helped the victim said: “I have lived in the area for nearly 60 years and I really like it, but it has had problems.

“We had a drug dealer living in the nearby maisonettes but he was reported by a few people and we have not seen him since.”

Anyone with information which could assist the police investigation should call 101, quoting log 50 of September 14.
