SEVERAL WAYS TO PAY CAR PARK CHARGE

A NEW parking payment system is in place in Hull’s Princes Quay Shopping Centre car park.

Rather than being given a ticket upon entry and slotting it into a machine at the barriers when leaving, customers can now pay via a smartphone app and are released by number plate recognition.

Failure to pay before heading on your way could see you given a £100 fine.

The city centre car park, which is open for 24 hours, is managed by a new partner, Yourparkingspace.

There are now four options to pay for parking - touchscreen kiosks, cashless app payments, QR code express checkout and pre-book.

Green sign boards displaying QR codes have been pinned up around the car park instructing people to scan the code with their phone camera in order to pay. They are then prompted to input their vehicle registration.

Alternatively, customers can download the Yourparkingspace app and input the car park’s location ID to make their digital payment.

Another payment method available is via telephone call. But, customers have struggled to find a cellular signal when inside the car park.

Yourparkingspace said: “Customers without smartphones or with a poor phone signal can choose to pay via the touchscreen kiosks. They can also book online in advance.”

According to the Princes Quay website, parking sessions can also be paid for at kiosks located on levels 2, 2a and 3.

However, these kiosks were “out of service” on Monday, October 18.

Instead, they showed the QR code and instructed people to scan it to pay, causing issues for those who do not use or have access to a smart phone.

Yourparkingspace has said that the kiosks were also closed “for a

short period” on Sunday, October 17. During this period it says the company switched the car park to free parking.

It also said that “enforcement has not been live during the transition phase while customers get used to the new system.”

The car park has moved to a barrier-less Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system.

Monthly season tickets are also available for regular users of the car park to purchase.
