Delivery driver shaken as van stolen and 20 parcels taken

A HERMES delivery driver was left distraught and “shaken” after his van with 20 parcels was stolen while he was at work in Hull.

The man was delivering a parcel to a block of flats in Appleton Road, Hull, on Friday, October 15, when the van was taken.

The keys were reportedly left in the vehicle as the man briefly popped out to deliver the parcel.

The driver was said to have been in tears after discoverin­g the van’s theft.

Although around 20 parcels were stolen, the van itself was recovered the next day by police and the driver has resumed his rounds this week.

A Hermes spokesman said: “We can confirm that one of our couriers had his van stolen last Friday in the Hull area.

“We have provided full support and, while understand­ably shaken, the courier is OK and is delivering again this week.

“The van was found the following day and around 20 parcels were stolen.

“All affected customers have been informed and there is no further disruption.”

Police confirmed the van was discovered near Courtland Road on Saturday and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

A Humberside Police spokesman said: “We were called to a report of a stolen vehicle at around 12.30pm on Friday, October 15.

“It is reported that a delivery van was taken from outside an address in Appleton Road, Hull.

“The vehicle was later recovered from near Courtland Road the next day.

“If anyone witnessed the incident, or has dashcam or CCTV footage of the area around the time the vehicle was stolen, you can contact us on our non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference number 16/102116/21.”
