Boyton leads the pro’s in first Alliance
BUT THORNE PAIRING TAKES VICTORY AT BRIDLINGTON LINKS
THE Humber Alliance opened its 2021-22 season at Bridlington Links and it proved to be very much to the liking of two pairings from Thorne who filled two of the top three places.
Winners with a nine under 45 points were Ian Strickland and Gary Close, whilst colleagues L. Pickering and A. Robinson were third on 42 points.
Separating the two Thorne pairs were Belvedere’s Dave Hawden and John Kilvington on 44 points.
Best of the professionals was Cottingham Parks’ Alex Boyton on 39 points.
In the league not surprisingly Thorne are setting the pace on 87 points with Belvedere on 84, Laceby Manor on 77 and Cottingham Parks on 76.
Kirkbymoorside hosted Round Two of this season’s Scarborough & District Golf Association’s Pennant Trophy and it was the early starters that were the winners as the weather deteriorated as the day progressed, heavy rain making playing conditions extremely difficult.
Scarborough South Cliff’s David Hall and Paul Dack were one of those out early, producing a sixunder-par 64 that was never headed.
Local knowledge was also a key requirement as the next three pairings were all from Kirkbymoorside.
In the Pennant Trophy North Cliff have maintained the advantage they established in Round One and are on 523 followed by Kirkbymoorside on 529, holders Filey on 530 with Malton & Norton and Driffield bracketed together on 534.
Flamborough & District Rabbits Golf got their 2021-22 Winter Alliance season under-way with Round One of the Alliance Challenge Trophy at Filey with 60 better-ball pairings taking up the challenge.
Best on the day with a score of 62 were B. Isham and M. Eades from Bridlington Links just one shot ahead of the home club pairing of J. Rhodes and K. Vasey.
Malton & Norton’s P. Sellers and D. Shaw and Driffield’s H. Bullement and G. Hawkins were bracketed together on 64.
Early leaders in the eight round Challenge Trophy are Driffield and Malton & Norton on 195 with Filey one shot back on 196 with Bridlington Links fourth on 199.
