Under-fire City boss Mccann responds to fans’ sacking chants

GRANT Mccann admits he understands the frustration of Hull City supporters after coming in for criticism during and after Wednesday night’s dismal 2-1 home defeat to Peterborough United, a result he accepts responsibility for.

Supporters chanted for former boss Steve Bruce before rounding on Mccann with chants of ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ as the Tigers suffered yet another home defeat against a side without an away win this season, before being booed off at full-time as frustrations again hit boiling point.

The defeat leaves City mired in the bottom three with just two wins in their opening 13 games and on course for yet another Championship relegation battle.

“I take full responsibility for the result and on Saturday at Huddersfield,” Mccann told BBC Radio Humberside.

“We’ve been in a dark place in this football club before, the first year I was here.

“We’ve sampled that, we’ve sampled the highs of promotion and winning the league.

“At this present time, things are going against us, we’ve got to keep working, trying to improve.

“We’ve got to stand up to the criticism, which is going to come our way, which people are entitled to their opinion of course and I take responsibility, like I say. “We’ve got to keep going.” Despite the anger among fans, Mccann says he and the players are feeling the disappointment and will continue to find a way out of the mire, with what looks a daunting trip to Luton Town to come on Saturday.

“I understand their frustrations, I really do. I feel it as well, the players feel it, and we’re disappointed to be coming in losing the game, so I get it.

“The supporters pay their hard earned money to vent their frustrations and I understand that, I can’t control that.

“All I can do is try and control the team and get them to win games and at the minute we’re not doing it so that’s why the frustration is there from everyone.

“We’ve been in dark times, we’ve been in high times and at the minute we’re in a bit of a low time and we need to find a way out of it.”
