A HEROIC Hull takeaway worker saved a woman’s life as he desperately clung on to her as she tried to jump from a bridge on the A63.

Muhammet Yilmaz, 23, was travelling back from Doncaster with his cousins in the early hours of Friday when he spotted the woman standing on the wrong side of the barrier on the A15 road bridge over the A63.

They immediately stopped their car on the bridge to the west of Hessle and got out to help the woman and try and talk to her.

Muhammet said: “We were just on our way back from seeing family when we saw the woman on the bridge. She was over the barrier and looked like she was thinking about jumping.

“We didn’t really discuss anything, someone called the police and we all tried to approach her slowly. We tried talking to her, but she wasn’t really responding.

“She said she didn’t want to talk, but we were managing to get closer a little by a little. In the end, we go so close that I could grab her.”

The woman had been standing on the wrong side of the barriers on a bridge over the A63 between North Ferriby and Hessle at around 12.20am.

Muhammet and his friends managed to edge over to the woman while trying to get her to talk and, in managing to get hold of her, made sure they could prevent her from jumping.

For 20 harrowing minutes, Muhammet and his friends held on to the woman while they waited for the emergency services to arrive.

Hull Live has been shown footage of the courageous takeaway worker saving the life of the woman by holding her on the barrier. Muhammet said: “To be honest,

it wasn’t really something that we did much thinking about, it was the right thing to do.

“We were worried about scaring her to jump, so we tried talking and only move over slowly to make sure.

“She didn’t respond to us talking, but I did manage to get hold of her. I was just happy that I could stop the jump.

“I’m just glad that she is safe, she was in tears while we had hold of her, she seemed so upset. We’re just glad she could be helped.”
