THE owner of popular plant business The Leaf Den has closed his shop after 17 months trading.

Jimmy Parker-taylor has been busy getting his plants to happy customers since the businesses opened in May 2020.

He described his time at The Leaf Den in Willerby as “the most exciting, fun and rewarding” months, but said it had taken a toll.

The businessman and former Hull and East Riding nurse said he will be taking a little time away to focus on his family, but promised to be back with something new in the near future.

Jimmy took to Instagram to warn customers of the closure.

He said: “It is with a great deal of sadness to announce that the Leaf Den will be closing its doors to the shop on Saturday, October 23.

“The past 17 months have just been the most exciting, fun and rewarding, and I will miss it so much. However, all the work has taken a toll, and I also miss spending time with my family.

“This is the reason why the Leaf Den store is closing, however it is not the end.

“For me, plants are a passion, I adore my customers, and find joy in you choosing your plants, and I’m not ready to let that go – so, all you cool plants and cuttings, keep your eyes unfurled for the next steps the Leaf Den takes!”

The business carved out an admirable presence even in through the worst of the Covid19 pandemic, but now Jimmy has taken the difficult decision to step back from the coal face.

Loyal customers and friends of the business took to Instagram to voice their support, one said: “Oh this pic and post has got me a bit emosh! The Leaf Den will never die! Well done guys, excited for what’s next.”

Another said: “You’ve brought sunshine and laughter to Willerby. We will certainly miss our one-stopshop for birthdays, housewarmings and anniversaries (as well as spontaneous “me” shopping).”

Writing on Instagram, Jimmy said: “First of all, thank you. Thank you to all of my amazing customers, you’ve been on this journey with me since our first plant drop and deliveries in may 2020.

“It’s been the greatest work experience of my life. I have learned, laughed, cried, and potted like a mad man! I have no idea how many of your babies I have potted!

“Thank you to colleagues at wholesalers, other local businesses, and makers for being part of the leaf den family.

“However, the Leaf Den’s doors have closed, but it’s not the end, a new leaf den baby will grow from this, so stay tuned for where I go from here. Thank you.”
