MCCANN: WE NEED TO FIND KILLER EDGE

GOAL-SHY CITY SINK FURTHER INTO TROUBLE WITH LUTON LOSS

HULL City’s players failed to heed the warnings given to them by Grant Mccann and his staff, as the Tigers slipped to another demoralising defeat.

Mccann warned his players to expect a quick start from Nathan Jones’ Luton Town players and that’s exactly what happened at Kenilworth Road, though they failed to react.

By the time Elijah Adebayo headed in unmarked at the back post 17 minutes in, the hosts had already hit the post and forced Matt Ingram into a couple of important stops.

The goal courtesy of yet more inept City defending proved decisive and in truth, Mccann’s men rarely looked like getting on terms, despite a much improved second-half display.

“We didn’t start well, Luton were better than us in the first half, they obviously get their goal and we spoke to the players about you have to start well here,” Mccann told BBC Three Counties Radio.

“It’s a tough place to come and we gave them the upper hand with the goal, and then we’re in an uphill battle again.

“We’re trying to come back from 1-0 down away from home when we’re not doing particularly well as we can do in terms of a goal front in this present time, but in the second half we rallied, kept going, penned

them in their half but just couldn’t get the goal.”

Despite going close through Keane Lewis-potter and Greg

Docherty in the second period, Mccann’s men slumped to a sixth successive game on the road without finding the net, and the underpressure boss admits his players have the weight of the world upon their shoulders.

“It is belief, it’s confidence,” he said.

“Forwards, midfield players, they probably feel the world is on their shoulders at this present time, but we can’t do any more in terms of an attacking sense.

“We’re putting together some really good passes and plays together and we’re getting to the final third with ease against some very good Championship teams, but we just don’t seem to be finding that killer edge at the moment.”
