THEY were the ultimate pop group of the Nineties and became household names across the country with 13 top-five singles.

As Steps prepare to step back into the limelight with their muchanticipated 2021 UK tour, a special touch of East Yorkshire glamour will accompany them, thanks to the talents of a Beverley-based hairdresser.

Dominic Ackah-amihere, owner of Urban Quarter in Norwood, has been asked by the band to make wigs for their UK tour, which starts next month.

As a result, singer Faye Tozer made a special trip to his salon on Monday.

The singer was getting some luscious long blonde extensions in preparation for the tour with bandmates Lisa Scott-lee, Claire Richards, Lee Latchford-evans and Ian “H” Watkins.

Dominic said: “Faye has worn wigs for the past two years to keep her real hair intact while performing.

“It’s my passion to make wigs, it takes around 20 hours to make just one and costs around £1,000.”

The hairstylist is fast becoming a firm favourite in the celebrity world with previous clients including Katie Price and Vicky Pattinson.

Dominic was himself diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma a number of years ago and, after gruelling treatment and getting the all-clear, he decided to put his efforts into helping young people diagnosed with cancer by providing them with bespoke wigs.

His love for making wigs grew even more when his salon faced months of closure during the height of the Covid lockdown.

Now he is preparing the final touches to Steps star Faye’s wigs, which will be seen on stages across the UK.

Faye directly messaged Dominic on Instagram and said she loved his work and wanted to use him for the tour, his colleague Sarah Bedall confirmed.

She will be wearing three wigs on tour, including a blonde balayage, a root shadow, and a platinum wig. She will be performing 18 shows on the Steps: What The Future Holds arena tour.

Each wig takes a whole day to

make, in between the celebrity stylist’s busy schedule.

Dominic said: “My salon is very busy now we’re up and running again post lockdown – generally there’s a six-week waiting list.

“I let the hair do the talking. You are only as good as your last haircut.”
