Kingston crash to heaviest loss for two years against Beverley

-

KINGSTON Hull FC suffered their worst league defeat for two years when going down 7-3 to table toppers Beverley in an Under-16s clash at Shelley Avenue.

Beverley were quick out of the blocks to stun the home side with two goals in the first five minutes, catching the Kingston defence out with long balls up front.

Midway through the half the long ball tactic paid dividends once more for Beverley as they stretched their lead to 3-0.

Kingston, though, weren’t out of the game and could have had two or three goals themselves but for poor finishing.

With seconds to go before halftime poor defending led to Kingston conceding for a fourth time, giving them a mountain to climb after the break.

The second half couldn’t have started any worse for Kingston when they once again got caught out by the long ball within seconds of the restart to go five goals down.

Zane Taylor’s nice through ball saw Calum Hepworth give Kingston a lifeline on 46 minutes, but less than a minute later Beverley scored again after Jake Frederick’s initial good save.

Hepworth scored his second when the Beverley keeper couldn’t hold on to his long shot on 53 minutes to get within four goals.

With a quarter of the match to go Kingston keeper Frederick recycled the ball from what he thought was a goal kick to roll it onto the six-yard line only for a Beverley striker to run up and kick the ball into the empty net for Beverley’s seventh, despite strong protests from the Kingston team.

With 10 minutes left a Jay Hicks free-kick into the box saw Hepworth head down to Dziugas Kotovicius who smashed home a consolation goal and pick up one of Kingston’s man of the match awards along with Hepworth.
