We are a bit of a soft touch
AS CITY CONTINUE THEIR CHAMPIONSHIP STRUGGLES
JACOB Greaves admits Hull City are proving to be too much of a soft touch as the Tigers struggle to adapt to life in the Championship.
City suffered their ninth defeat of a traumatic season on Saturday, going down 1-0 at play-off chasing Luton Town.
While Grant Mccann’s side were vastly improved in the second half, yet more woeful defending from the Tigers had seen the damage done in the first half when Elijah Adebayo was left unmarked to head in at the back post just 17 minutes in, a result which leaves the Tigers mired in the bottom three.
In what is his first season at Championship level playing alongside Manchester United loanee Di’shon Bernard, Greaves says he’s getting to grips with life in English football’s second tier.
“It’s difficult,” he told BBC Radio Humberside.
“I think I’ve done alright in some of the games we’ve been unfortunate not to keep a few more clean sheets which we could have done. We don’t concede so many shots, but I think we’re maybe a bit of a soft touch at the minute and that’s where we need to improve.”
City’s squad has an average age of just over 25 this term, but with two youngsters in the heart of the back, excuses could be made for some of the errors that have dogged performances, but Greaves says age is not an excuse the players can use.
“We’ve got a lot of young players, though that’s no excuse,” Greaves continued.
“Me and Dee (Di’shon Bernard) are both 21 at the back and have dealt with it alright. Hopefully we can keep learning and learning about the league as a team because we’re quite inexperienced.
“Me as an individual, I haven’t played too many games in the Championship so it’s different. I think I’m learning with every game. Some of my performances have been decent, but there’s plenty to work on.”
