Family pay tribute to a well-loved son ‘Busta’
INQUEST: ‘DJ TOOK HIS OWN LIFE’
A Well-loved DJ took his own life after battling with his mental health.
Christopher Hinchcliffe, 30, of north Hull, better known locally as “Busta”, was found dead in the early morning of February 20 this year, in his ex-partner Jade’s home, an inquest heard.
On Friday, February 19, after dealing with personal issues, Mr Hinchcliffe rang Jade, the mother of his two children, and asked if he could be let in. Jade, who was out at that time, returned with their son and let him in.
He left for a short walk and returned, but sadly took his own life in the early hours the next day.
Jade found him at 7.20am and called an ambulance. A paramedic declared him dead at the scene.
He had a history of struggling with his mental health for several years, the inquest heard, and despite his family’s attempts to reach out to him, he refused to seek professional help.
In a statement read out by the coroner, Lorraine Harris, on behalf of Mr Hinchliffe’s mother, said he would occasionally post on Facebook talking about his depression, but it was the only time and place he would talk about it.
She said he was a good son and a good dad who always went out of his way to help others.
He was a handyman around the house whenever she needed him and had a good relationship with his brother and two sisters.
Ms Harris said the post-mortem report revealed Mr Hinchcliffe was found with a non-fatal dose of cocaine and alcohol in his blood, which increased “risk-taking” in his behaviour, but ultimately concluded that Hinchcliffe intended to take his life. She said to Mr Hinchcliffe’s family: “It is very clear to me from the way you have conducted yourselves, that you have nice memories thinking of him and he knew he was very loved.
“I hope now we have dealt with the inquest, you can move on with the positive memories you have of him, rather than who he was on the day he died.”
On Thursday, February 25, five days after his death, on what would have been Busta’s 31st birthday, his friends and family gathered in Shaw Park in Hall Road to pay tribute to him.
Balloons were released after the assembled crowd counted down and shouted happy birthday to their beloved pal.
People who knew and loved him also raised more than £2,500 to help his family cover funeral costs.
I hope now we have dealt with the inquest, you can move on with the positive memories you have of him
