Hull Daily Mail

Failure to speak to sections of the media is ‘embarrassing’

-

I WAS really frustrated last week to read the tweet from BBC Radio Humberside’s David Burns when he explained why he hadn’t been conducting post-match interviews this season.

To think that Hull City’s manager will not speak to the Hull Daily Mail or the BBC’S

Tigers correspondent, is quite frankly, embarrassing.

Once again, it shows a complete disregard for the club’s supporters.

Mccann wouldn’t even talk to David when he tried to contact him and talk about the situation like grown adults.

Even if he doesn’t like the tone of his questions, what does that matter?

Give your reasoned response and move on, it’s not that difficult, surely?

Speaking to the media is part of the job, it goes with the territory and if you want to be a top football manager and be paid for the privilege, you have to expect that you will be challenged over your decisions, whether you like it or not.

Questions are only difficult to answer if you’re scared to answer them and clearly the manager is, otherwise he’d speak to the two City reporters trying to cover the club and ask the questions the fans want asking.

This behaviour from the club and its manager is only further highlighting how desperate it is for a change in direction, for a fresh voice and something to re-engage the supporters, because they’ve had enough.

I wrote in my column recently that the Allams needed to leave if they had any respect for Hull City left.

That point still remains now as we await positive news on a possible takeover, but with so many false dawns over the past few years, it’s hard for City fans to be anything other than sceptical.

Mccann’s silence is further alienating himself from the supporters, and it’s no surprise to see that what was left of a fractious relationship has now completely disintegrated.

He’d earn far more respect from people if he came out and was honest, spoke from the heart about his decisions, why he’s doing this and that, rather than being flippant, arrogant using excuses.

It simply doesn’t wash and he can have no complaints about the supporters chanting for him to be sacked, because they feel nothing for him as their manager.

He should show his courage by wanting to answer questions, to stand up and be counted, to face the music when things are not going well, but his unwillingness to do so is embarrassing and once again, proves the fans right when they say the club does not appear to care about them.
