Join choir and you could be singing at our festive concert

-

THE Hull Male Voice Choir was formed more than 100 years ago.

In that time, it has sung both locally, nationally and internationally and in the process has raised thousands of pounds for charities.

It has a library of several hundred songs that have been performed over the years and covers every genre of music, from traditional Welsh hymns to African-american spirituals, from sea shanties to songs from the shows, from the Beatles to Simon and Garfunkel. It is safe to say that we have songs to cover every musical taste.

Unfortunately, like many other organisations, as we have reconvened after an absence of almost two years the dreaded Covid has taken a toll on our membership.

As a consequence, we are now seeking new members. We are looking for men who can sing in tune, you do not need to be able to read music, and have a couple of hours free on a Wednesday evening.

We currently practice at a venue people will remember as the Blind Institute on Beverley Road. We also perform about six concerts a year, singing a whole range of songs from our collection.

I know that many of us are wondering what to do with our time as we come out of lockdown, and singing is a good therapy from recovering from “the blues”.

So, if you think that you might enjoy being part of a choir, then please feel free to come along and give us a try on a Wednesday evening at 7.30pm.

Our practices are always light hearted and our members come from a whole range of backgrounds so you wouldn’t feel out of place and would be made very welcome, plus, for new members, there is initially no subscription.

If you are interested or would like more information then please feel free to contact our secretary Allen Bagshawe either by phone on 07813 430429. Or by email on allen@ bagshawe.karoo.co.uk

We are just starting practising for our Christmas Concert, so who knows you could actually be singing with us at our Sounds of Christmas Concert at the Guildhall in Hull on Thursday December 2 at 7.30pm.

If you are interested why not come along and give us a try.
